History of the NTAS Alice Springs Group

In late 2007 it became apparent that the owners (Ngaanyatjarra Council) wanted to sell their interests in Ultragold Pty Ltd then trading as Aboriginal Aircraft Maintenance & Services maintenance activities. The engineering division of Aboriginal Air Services.

It was at this time that Vincent Carter contacted his long time friend and business associate Ian Scheyer to jointly submit a proposal of acquisition of Ultragold Pty Ltd inclusive of its CASA CAR 30 Certificate of Approval, Lacewing Holdings Pty Ltd with its avionics CASA CAR 30 Certificate of Approval, two (2) hangars, plant & equipment, spares inventory and one (1) Cessna 210L aircraft that formed the sales package.

Alice Aircraft Maintenance & Services (AAMS) was formed and on December 12th 2008 settlement of Ultragold Pty Ltd was achieved and AAMS began conducting maintenance activities under Ultragold Pty Ltd’s Certificate of Approval.

In late December 2008, AAMS entered into negotiations with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) for the sale / purchase of AAMS Western hangar at 26 Davis Drive. In March 2009 the sale was concluded.

In April 2009 Avlease Pty Ltd was formed to manage the hiring out of company aircraft to customers. Two (2) additional aircraft were procured outright; a PA‐ 31‐350 Chieftain (VH‐TAR) and a PA‐23‐250 Aztec (VH‐DCQ). These two (2) aircraft and the existing Cessna 210L (VH‐MTJ) were then managed by Avlease to create an additional revenue stream.

At this point in time Ultragold Pty Ltd, Alice Aircraft Maintenance & Services, Avlease Pty Ltd and Lacewing Holding were fully owned and funded internally.

In December 2010 Australasian Jet‐ Alice Springs approached the Directors with a view to sell the Alice Springs based operation. To that end a deal was struck where Avlease acquired the six (6) aircraft and charter business under vendor finance over a four (4) year period. With the limited time available, a shelf company PJ Peel Pty Ltd was formed t/a Northern Territory Air Services so as to commence charter flights on the 1st March 2011.

Northern Territory Air Services Pty Ltd was then formed soon after as the ongoing management company for charter flight operations. It began trading under its own name as of March 2011.

AvCharter Pty Ltd was formed on 22nd Oct 2010 with a view to apply on behalf of Northern Territory Air Services (NTAS) for its own AOC. AvCharter Pty Ltd received it’s AOC on the 8th July 2013.

NTAS applied for its ISO Quality/Safety Approval in September 2012; certification was granted on the 8th July 2013. This approval as a prerequisite will open additional Government and Mining contracts that may be tendered.

Management realises the opportunities that are available for a well based Charter operation located within Central Australia. Since establishing Alice Aircraft Maintenance & Services in December 2008 and then Northern Territory Air Services in May 2011, management have ensured that there is a factor of consolidation after each company formation to allow for stability and a platform for healthy growth.
