At the Yulara Visitors Centre you can learn about the spiritual significance of Uluru and why the Anangu would prefer it if you did not climb the rock.

Aboriginal guides conduct walks of about 10km around the base of the rock where you will see many cave paintings.
– The Traditional Owners say ‘We are direct descendants of the beings who created our lands during the Tjukurpa (Creation Time). We have always been here. We call ourselves Anangu and would like you to use that term for us.

Our land is listed as a World Heritage Area for both its cultural and natural values.’

Uluru was returned to the ownership of the Anangu in 1985.
